Praise for Circle of Shadows

“I was totally gripped from the very first page of this novel of occult mysteries, dangerous deceptions, and daring investigations.”

Circle of Shadows is a new series of historical gothic mysteries for adults, published by Hodderscape. The sequel, Domain of Darkness, publishes in December 2026.

It's 1904, and being a detective - let alone an occult detective - is no profession for a woman. But that won't stop Evie Winstanley.

Meet Marisa

A woman with shoulder-length brown hair and a black-and-white patterned blouse is holding a copy of the book 'The Binding Spell' by Marisa Linton in a bookstore. She is smiling and standing in front of shelves filled with colorful books.

Marisa has two writing identities.

In one she’s a professor of history, a historical consultant for television series and the author of books about the French Revolution. In the other she writes grounded fantasy, where supernatural beings, witches, ghosts and figures from ancient folklore inhabit a hidden world on the edge of our own.

Historical consultancy

Marisa has made many TV and radio appearances, and was the historical adviser for the 2022 TV series, based on the classic French novel of 1782, Dangerous Liaisons.

Marisa is available for event bookings, public talks and festival appearances.
